On Friday 10th May, FIFA issued a press release confirming that Montserrat’s World Cup qualifier at home to Panama will be played at Nicaragua’s National Stadium in Managua on 9th June 2024. This will be 4 days after Montserrat’s away game against Nicaragua at the same stadium on 5th June.
The change of venue will allow the Montserrat squad more time to recover from the first game, and provide more time to prepare for the second, but forfeiting home advantage against such strong opposition will make beating Panama an even more difficult task.
Realistically, if Montserrat is to progress to the next round it will need to win one of these games.
Monserrat will also face Guyana and Belize in its second round group, with Belize due to play at the Blakes Stadium in a year’s time.
