Montserrat’s game against Guyana moved to Barbados

The Guyana Football Federation has moved next month’s Guyana v Montserrat Nations League fixture to the Wildey Stadium in Barbados. The game will be played on 28th March.

The statement read: “The decision to move the match from Guyana to Barbados was approved by Concacaf following a thorough review of facilities here, including the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora”. It explained that the General Secretary had written to Concacaf explain that grass coverage was too sparse to play football.

The letter advised Concacaf that “the stadium authorities have recently treated the grass for infestation, which makes it possibly injurious to the health of players. This situation would have to be monitored and evaluated in a few weeks to ascertain the reduction or total removal of this threat.”

Montserrat is currently bottom of Group B with two games to go and needs to pick up points from the games against Guyana and Haiti to avoid relegation to League C. Montserrat’s home fixture against Haiti will be played in Montserrat on the 25th of March.
